A trusty blue herringbone shirt is an essential part of any man’s wardrobe. Similar to the blue oxford (albeit slightly more refined and less rugged), a solid coloured herringbone shirt has the ability to look at ease in almost all situations.
Herringbone fabric, named for its distinctive pattern resembling a herring’s skeletal structure, is a fabric with a zigzag pattern slanting in alternating directions. From personal experience, I find herringbone to be softer and more “cushiony” than other types of fabric - a nuance, I know - but influential enough that I often find myself subconsciously drawn to selecting herringbone over other fabrics, whether I am going through my closet or flipping through a swatch book.
The shirt above is a perfect example of a well executed blue herringbone shirt - slim-fitting with a soft spread-collar - I definitely wouldn’t mind wearing this five days a week.
